Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has shared why she believes Meghan Markle was included in her children’s reunion with King Charles last month. The Sussex family, who had also visited Portugal and Scotland during their overseas trip, met with the King and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House on July 10.

It marked the King’s first in-person meeting with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet since 2022. Meghan and Harry are currently raising Archie, who was born in the UK in 2019, and Lilibet in Montecito, California.

The five-year-old princess was, unlike her brother, born in the US one year after the family relocated there.

Speaking of the meeting with the King and Queen, Ms Bond said that Meghan’s presence was likely to protect Archie and Lilibet as they may have wondered why their mum wasn’t included if she was not present.

Ms Bond told the Mirror: “It’s a good thing that [Meghan] was part of the family reunion at Highgrove a few weeks ago”.

This is especially as “the children deserve to see some family harmony: it would have been damaging to have to explain that their mother wasn’t invited.”

Meghan has recently been reported to have been very happy to have returned to the US after their visit.

According to Ms Bond, Meghan is “intelligent” and understands that she is not popular in the UK – and explains that her focus likely remains on three major areas.

She said: “I think her eyes are firmly set on their lives in California, their children and her business ventures.”

Prior to this last visit, Meghan last visited the UK in 2022.
