Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have drawn sharp criticism for allegedly “invading their own privacy” after offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse of their recent European travels.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex journeyed to England earlier this month, before making brief stops on a Scottish island and at their vacation property in Portugal.

Meghan took to social media to share highlights from the trip, posting photographs of the couple’s two children at the Althorp estate, where Princess Diana was raised, along with images from Scotland and Portugal. However, royal commentator Lizzie Robinson suggested the move directly contradicts Harry and Meghan’s repeated demands for a private life, as well as the duke’s stated security concerns for his family.

Speaking on ITV’s Talking Royals podcast, she said: “I thought how hard they have worked to protect their privacy around their trip to the UK, and then to post those series of photos, are they almost sort of invading their own privacy?”

Host Charlene White noted: “The picture in Portugal, that is very much showing where they have been on holiday and a lot of the papers have talked about them having possibly bought a holiday home.

“It’s almost giving an idea of exactly where in Europe, where in Portugal they frequent.”

ITV’s Royal Editor Chris Ship weighed in, stating: “I’d say if they have bought a holiday home, and you are able to reverse Google search that image of that restaurant, then that’s probably the mistake. If you’re worried about your privacy, don’t share where that restaurant was.”

Additional images in the social media carousel featured one of Meghan relaxing on a sun lounger beside a pool, with a man bearing resemblance to Harry’s uncle Earl Spencer visible in the background, and another that seemed to depict Harry, Archie and Lilibet bringing flowers to Princess Diana’s grave, reports the Express.

The couple routinely includes photographs of their children in social media updates, but consistently conceals their faces or captures them from behind.

During their visit to the UK, the duke and duchess brought their children to meet the King for the first time in four years at his Highgrove residence.

Meghan, Archie and Lilibet were unable to accompany Harry on July 6 due to security concerns, but it seemed those issues were resolved to enable them to make the trip later that week.

The duke has been engaged in a lengthy legal dispute with the Home Office regarding the security provisions for him and his family during UK visits after his protection level was modified when he ceased being a working royal in 2020.
