A friend of Meghan Markle’s has set the record straight after claims emerged that he ‘snubbed’ her on the red carpet. Last weekend, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a charity gala for the David Foster Foundation in Canada, as they dressed to the nines for the glitzy event.

In the days after the party, videos emerged from the red carpet in which some speculated that Meghan had been snubbed by Foster, who is a long-time friend of the Sussexes. In the video, it looks like Meghan outstretched her arm to welcome Foster and his wife, Katharine McPhee, into a group photo.

It then seems that Foster, who has won 16 Grammys throughout his impressive career as a music producer, walks past her without even looking at Harry and Meghan, before McPhee ushers her husband into position to pose with the Duke and Duchess.

The moment caused much furore online, with David Foster now issuing his own statement to debunk the claims, and solidifying his solid friendship with Harry and Meghan. He told People magazine : “As the host of the David Foster and Friends foundation event, I had already greeted our friends, the Duke and Duchess, at the entrance 10 minutes before the red carpet encounter.

“They both, graciously and selflessly, gave their time and went beyond to engage with everyone. Harry and Meghan are dear friends of mine. Anyone watching can see there was no awkward moment and certainly no snub.”

He continued: “It’s sad that certain media chose to deceive a red carpet encounter for clickbait. They turned simple ‘positioning’ to get the best photo into a hurtful lie.”

Meghan shared her own videos and photos from the night, posting behind the scenes footage showing them walking through a corridor at the venue lined with a group of pipers and drummers wearing traditional kilts.

Meghan shared the video of the moment on her Instagram, as she smiled alongside her husband while making jokes with the musicians. At the start of the video, the Duchess said: “My husband loves bagpipes!”

As they continued to walk past the pipers, Meghan added: “Oh my god, this is amazing!” Harry then joked with the musicians, asking: “Where are mine?” He then corrected himself that it wasn’t just pipers but “pipes and drums”.

As well as the video, Meghan shared a selfie of her and Harry smiling, with Meghan dressed in an elegant black one-shoulder evening gown by Canadian designer Greta Constantine, complete with her signature slicked back bun and a pair of diamond earrings that previously belonged to Princess Diana, while Harry donned a tuxedo for the formal event.

The charity event was part of a weekend-long celebration commemorating 40 years of The David Foster Foundation, which provides financial support to Canadian families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants.

The two couples have been friends for several years, and have previously been spotted on a double date together. In 2019, Foster arranged for the Duke and Duchess to stay at a close friend’s mansion on Vancouver Island, as he told the Daily Mail at the time he was ‘honoured’ to help them. Foster’s wife Katharine also went to school with Meghan.
