Former NFL wide receiver Stedman Bailey has found himself at the center of a bizarre legal controversy after police say he was caught allegedly engaging in a sexual act in a public area of a Florida mall — with surveillance footage and the former football player’s own account becoming key pieces of the investigation.

The incident reportedly unfolded around 12:30 a.m. on July 27 at Round1, an entertainment complex inside Pembroke Lakes Mall in Pembroke Pines, Florida. According to police, Bailey and 35-year-old Karina Manderson were allegedly involved in the incident while other people were nearby.

What initially appeared to be a late-night encounter quickly escalated when a witness reportedly confronted the pair and alerted authorities.
