BBC Crime Drama Blue Lights Sets U.S. Return Date for Season 4

Fans of The Rookie have another police drama to look forward to as the BBC’s acclaimed crime series Blue Lights prepares to return to American screens. The Belfast-set drama will premiere its fourth season on BritBox in the United States on November 12, 2026, bringing its tense portrayal of frontline policing back to viewers.

Katherine Devlin in Blue Lights

Created by Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, Blue Lights first aired on BBC One in March 2023. The series follows probationary police officers learning to navigate the demands of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), where routine patrols can quickly turn into dangerous encounters. Its grounded approach to police work and focus on the personal struggles of young officers have helped distinguish it from more conventional crime procedurals.

Season 4 follows Constables Grace Ellis, Tommy Foster and Annie Conlon three years into their careers. Although they have gained experience on the streets, they face a growing threat that is becoming increasingly difficult for the police to contain. When a murder trial involving Gerry Cliff brings a long-buried secret to light, turmoil spreads through both the police force and the criminal underworld. As the investigation unfolds, Grace, Tommy and Annie must confront difficult decisions about their futures while trying to uncover the truth.

Nathan Braniff in Blue Lights

The returning cast includes Siân Brooke as Grace Ellis, Nathan Braniff as Tommy Foster and Katherine Devlin as Annie Conlon. Martin McCann also returns as Stevie, alongside Joanne Crawford, Andi Osho, Frank Blake, Abigail McGibbon, Dearbhaile McKinney and Andrea Irvine. Other familiar faces include Cathy Tyson as private members’ club owner Dana Morgan, Michael Smiley as intelligence officer Paul “Colly” Collins and Richard Dormer as Gerry Cliff. Hannah McClean reprises her role as solicitor Jen Robinson, while Jonathan Harden returns as disgraced former inspector Jonty.

Joanne Crawford and Hannah McClean in Blue Lights

Although The Rookie follows officers navigating the challenges of policing, Blue Lights takes a grittier approach, examining the realities of frontline work in Belfast. Both dramas explore the pressures faced by officers on the job, but Blue Lights places particular emphasis on the political and criminal challenges confronting the PSNI.

The six-episode fourth season will premiere on BritBox on November 12, 2026, with new episodes arriving weekly until the finale on December 17. The first three seasons are also available on the platform, giving newcomers an opportunity to catch up before the new chapter begins. With a fresh investigation, unresolved secrets and mounting pressure on its central trio, Blue Lights is set to bring another tense chapter of Belfast policing to American audiences this November.
