Prince Harry Makes First UK Appearance Since Allegations Involving Thomas Markle Emerged
Prince Harry has returned to the public eye in London for the first time since serious allegations involving his father-in-law, Thomas Markle, became public. The Duke of Sussex appeared at a major travel industry awards ceremony, where he delivered a keynote speech promoting more responsible tourism, while the controversy surrounding Meghan Markle’s estranged father continued to develop.
Harry attended the Wanderlust Travel Media Awards at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich on Wednesday evening, November 4. The appearance was part of his work as founder of Travalyst, the not-for-profit organisation he established in 2019 to encourage more sustainable practices across the travel industry.
Dressed in a suit and a red-and-blue striped tie, the Duke addressed guests about the role travel can play in creating positive change.
“I started Travalyst because I believe deeply in travel as a force for good,” he said.
The event marked Harry’s first known UK appearance since allegations concerning Thomas Markle were made public. It also came amid renewed scrutiny of the Sussexes’ travel habits and the wider investigation in the Philippines.
Harry’s Travalyst mission faces renewed scrutiny

Since its launch in 2019, Travalyst has sought to make sustainability information more accessible to travellers and encourage the tourism industry to reduce its environmental impact.
However, Harry’s involvement in the organisation has sometimes attracted criticism. The Duke and Meghan have faced accusations of hypocrisy over their use of private jets, with critics questioning how their travel choices align with their public advocacy for environmental responsibility.
The Daily Mail previously reported that the couple took four private jet trips in just 11 days during the year Travalyst was launched.
Harry addressed the issue during a speech in Amsterdam at the time, explaining that his family’s security could occasionally require different travel arrangements.
“I spend 99% of my life travelling the world by commercial,” he said. “Occasionally, there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family are safe.”
He also acknowledged that nobody was perfect when it came to environmental issues, adding that “we can all do better”.
At this year’s awards, Travalyst’s work received further industry recognition when Wanderlust announced that it had joined the organisation’s Affiliate Network, bringing its readers and industry partners into the initiative.
Meghan reportedly devastated by allegations involving her father

Harry’s London appearance came after he, Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, reportedly left the UK for a short break abroad with close friends shortly before the allegations involving Thomas Markle emerged.
A friend of Meghan told HELLO! that the Duchess had been deeply upset by the reports, particularly because she is a mother herself.
“She keeps on looking at Lili, and she’s in tears, and thinking about all the children, the alleged victims,” the friend said. “She has young children herself. It’s just devastating.”
The source added that Meghan had already decided to step away from media coverage for a period to protect her mental health. However, messages from friends in Britain and others expressing sympathy had reportedly made the situation an emotional experience for her.
Meghan previously issued a statement saying she was “deeply distressed” by the allegations concerning her estranged father. She also said she had been made aware of a letter containing troubling claims about him that had been sent to the Metropolitan Police and its Royalty and Specialist Protection unit.
The Duchess said she had been assured that the allegations were being investigated.
Thomas Markle Jr named a person of interest

The investigation has also taken a new turn following comments from Philippine Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla on November 5.
Remulla confirmed that Thomas Markle Jr, Meghan’s half-brother, had been named a person of interest as authorities examine whether he may have had any involvement in the alleged offences. He stressed, however, that Markle Jr was not being treated as a suspect.
Investigators are following up on witness accounts that underage girls were allegedly brought to his residence in Cebu. Remulla also referred to reports of ring lights being visible through the property’s windows. Markle Jr reportedly told authorities that he had been making TikTok videos, while investigators said they had not found underage girls appearing in his account.
Remulla said officials expected to establish within the following days whether Markle Jr had any connection to the case.
The development follows the discovery of suspected child sexual abuse material among electronic devices and personal belongings reportedly linked to Thomas Markle Sr. The investigation began after Markle Jr told authorities that he had found images and videos among his father’s possessions at his former home in the Philippines.
According to Philippine officials, investigators recovered approximately 7,500 photographs and one video involving underage children. Authorities are continuing to examine the material and establish who owned or was responsible for the devices and their contents.
Markle Jr also reportedly contacted the FBI in the United States in July after making the discovery.
Thomas Markle Sr, 82, had been living in a high-rise apartment in Cebu City from January 2025 until May 2026. He returned to the United States after suffering a severe blood clot that resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee.
He has denied possessing child sexual abuse images.
