Prince William Takes Prince George to Barcelona for Special Aston Villa Champions League Night
Prince William has given Prince George a memorable half-term treat, taking his eldest son to Barcelona to watch their beloved Aston Villa compete in the UEFA Champions League.
The Prince of Wales and George made a surprise appearance at the club’s away match against FC Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. The trip came during George’s half-term break from Eton College, offering the father and son an opportunity to enjoy one of their shared passions away from their usual royal commitments.

Ahead of the match, FC Barcelona publicly welcomed the two royal visitors with a photograph of William, who looked smart in a navy blazer over a crewneck sweater.
“FC Barcelona is honoured to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and His Royal Highness Prince George to the Spotify Camp Nou,” the club wrote.
“Thank you for joining us for a special evening of Champions League football featuring your beloved Aston Villa.”
William and George Cheer on Villa Despite the Rain
The royal father and son were seated in the front row of a hospitality box, giving them an excellent view of the action. Despite the rain, both remained focused on the match and enthusiastic about supporting their team.
William appeared in particularly high spirits, smiling as he cheered on Aston Villa. George also showed his loyalty, wearing a black athletic jacket featuring the club’s crest.
The young prince’s support for Villa is no surprise. William previously revealed that his eldest son had followed in his footsteps as an Aston Villa supporter during an informal meeting with fans at a Wetherspoons pub in Birmingham last year.

According to Villa fan Darren Johnson, the Prince of Wales spoke about the football preferences of his children, explaining that he would not force a particular team on them — provided they did not support Chelsea, given how many people around him were fans of the London club.
William’s comments offered a glimpse into how his enthusiasm for Aston Villa has become something he can share with George.
The Story Behind Prince William’s Lifelong Aston Villa Loyalty
William has supported Aston Villa for many years, and he recently discussed the origins of his football allegiance during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show earlier this month.
The Prince revealed that childhood friends had introduced him to the club, joking that they may have been hoping their royal connection would eventually lead to free tickets.
“Some childhood friends of mine got me into Aston Villa, clearly thinking they’d get some free tickets in later life. I think it’s probably worked,” he told host Graham Norton.

His affection for the club also goes back to his school days. In a 2015 interview with the BBC’s Gary Lineker, William explained that while many of his classmates supported Manchester United or Chelsea, he wanted to follow a team that would offer a different kind of football experience.
He said he had been drawn to Aston Villa because supporting a side that was often around mid-table promised more emotional ups and downs.
The Prince also spoke about the club’s history and the friendships that helped strengthen his connection with the team. One of his earliest football memories was attending an FA Cup match between Bolton and Aston Villa in 2000.
Recalling the experience, he described sitting among Villa supporters wearing a red beanie and enjoying the atmosphere, camaraderie and sense of belonging among the fans.
A Shared Football Tradition for William and George

The Barcelona trip was not the first time George had joined his father to watch Aston Villa play.
Their previous football outing together took place in April 2025, when William brought his eldest son to Villa Park in Birmingham for the second leg of the club’s UEFA Champions League 2024/25 quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain.
George embraced the occasion, cheering alongside his father and wearing an Aston Villa scarf as they watched the match.
Their latest appearance at the Spotify Camp Nou continued that father-and-son tradition, giving George another opportunity to share in William’s longstanding passion for the club — this time on a major European football night in Barcelona.
