Prince William issues personal ‘thank you’ message as wildfires bring devastation to UK

Prince William personally thanked emergency services for their heroic efforts to battle the wildfires that have been devastasting the UK in recent days. In a emotional message published on X today, the Prince of Wales wrote: “To the firefighters, emergency responders and volunteers battling wildfires across the UK, thank you.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected, particularly those who have lost their homes, and with those working tirelessly to protect communities, homes and the countryside.” The heir to the throne signed off his message with his initial, W. This shows that the message was personally written by William.
A number of wildfires, fuelled by the persistent hot and dry weather in the UK, have devastated areas across the country in recent weeks.
Among the recent blazes, dozens of homes were evacuated and a major incident was declared near Llandovery, Carmarthenshire, due to a fire.
Elsewhere, in Hampshire, firefighters tackled for days a wildfire in the New Forest, which broke out last Sunday.
Sixteen emergencies were tackled by Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service on Thursday afternoon, including a fire at Mousehold Heath.
In his previous statement about wildfires, William wrote: “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the devastating wildfires across France, Spain and the UK.
“We are deeply grateful to the firefighters, emergency services and volunteers working tirelessly in extraordinarily difficult conditions.
“These events are a stark reminder of the challenges posed by an increasingly extreme climate and the importance of protecting both people and nature. W.”

In 2020, the prince founded the Earthshot Prize, which has a mission to “find, celebrate and scale the solutions that will repair our planet by 2030”.
The Earthshot Prize encourages people to come up with creative and innovative solutions to help ease pressure on the environment and be more environmentally-friendly.
Each year, the Earthshot panel go through the solutions people have submitted and choose five winners, who each receive £1 million to help bring these solutions to life, with helping the environment being the key goal.
