“2 weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world. And since then we’ve had the most special, cosy and love-filled time,” Eugenie wrote.

“We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank,” she continued. “Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts.”

“Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home,” Eugenie added, nodding to the baby girl’s birthplace in Lisbon.

“Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers,” Eugenie concluded.

Queen Elizabeth, whose reign lasted a historic 70 years before she died in 2022, has served as name inspiration for many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Princess Eugenie’s sister, Princess Beatrice, has Elizabeth as a middle name, as do their cousins Zara Tindall and Lady Louise.

Among Queen Elizabeth’s great-grandchildren, Elizabeth is part of the names of Princess Charlotte, Lena Tindall, Sienna Mapelli Mozzi and Athena Mapelli Mozzi. In addition, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle named their 5-year-old daughter Lilibet, after Queen Elizabeth’s childhood nickname, and call her by the nickname Lili.

Adelaide means “noble,” according to Nameberry, which adds that the moniker “gained fame as the noble German princess who married the British King William IV in 1830 and became known as ‘Good Queen Adelaide,’ inspiring the name of the Australian city and a craze for her name. Earlier, St. Adelaide was married to Otto the Great and became Empress of the Holy Roman Empire, described as ‘a marvel of beauty and goodness.’ “

Royal reporter Rebecca English added via X that Princess Eugenie wore accessories at her wedding that were commissioned by William IV for Queen Adelaide: two diamond ear brooches that Eugenie sported in her hair at her evening wedding reception.

English added that the name was also partly inspired by Maria Adelaide, a Portuguese woman who is considered an honorary saint despite never being canonized.

English also reported that Annina comes from a “personal connection” to the couple.

The British royal family’s official social media pages announced the baby’s birth on Aug. 4, sharing a photo of the little girl wearing a pink onesie and a hat, which was taken by her father.

The official announcement read, “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at 6:20 pm, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. The baby was born weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces.”

“Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news,” the statement continued.

Upon her birth, the baby joined the line of succession to the British throne. Princess Eugenie is currently in the 12th spot, followed by her three children, making the baby 15th in the line of succession.

Princess Eugenie also announced the family’s happy news on her personal Instagram page, writing, “Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie.”

The family’s newest addition was born in Portugal, where they live part-time due to Jack’s job.

Eugenie married Jack in October 2018 after seven years of dating. They tied the knot in a royal wedding at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in a celebration attended by Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and many members of the royal family.

While they are not working royals, Princess Eugenie and her older sister, Princess Beatrice, 37, have laid low in recent months amid the continued controversy surrounding their parents, the former Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

In October 2025, King Charles stripped the former Duke and Duchess of York of their royal honors and titles amid renewed interest in their ties to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein, and Ferguson has not been accused of any.

In February, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, related to a claim that he shared confidential information with Epstein during his time as a trade envoy for the U.K.

Following the arrest, a source told PEOPLE that Eugenie and Beatrice hoped to “stay away” from the controversy surrounding their parents for the sake of their own growing families.

“They have young children, and this is their grandfather — their focus is on protecting their own children from this,” the insider said.
