Within moments, he drops to the ground and reaches for a tourniquet as frantic voices guide him toward the wounded 31-year-old. The most graphic parts of the scene remain concealed, yet the deputy’s urgency and the cries heard around him reveal how desperate the rescue had already become. Despite every effort made beside the river, Brittany died after being taken from the scene.
